Yes you will need to bring your licence to your first lesson. You can apply for your licence ahead of your 17th birthday on the DVLA website here.
  • How much are driving lessons?
Driving lessons with Davidson Driving School are £40 per hour with a discount available for block bookings.
  • How many lessons do I need to pass my driving test?
There is no set amount of lessons required to pass your test, this will depend on how often you are able to have a lesson, whether you have a access to a vehicle to practice in between lessons and your previous experience. At Davidson Driving School we work with you to ensure you feel prepared for your test and learn at best speed for you.
  • Do you provide pick-up and drop-off services for lessons?
Most of our lessons take place in Castle Douglas to allow you to experience the range of road scenarios that are present in the driving test. We are able to pick you up and drop you off however this is taken as part of the lesson time. Many of our pupils who live outside of Castle Douglas prefer to meet us in order to have the maximum time spend on driving instruction. We're happy to discuss individual circumstances at the time of booking.
  • What is the curriculum for the driving lessons?
During your lessons we'll cover all aspects of driving to give you confidence in your ability and decision making on the road. We want you to become a safe driver and tailor each lesson to ensure you are competent before taking your test. We'll also talk about aspects of driving theory and general car maintenance.
  • How do I book my driving test?
Your instructor will discuss when they think you are ready to book your driving test. They will be able to advise on current wait times for test slots. We normally recommend that you ask us to book your test on your behalf to ensure the school car will be available for you.
  • What should I expect during the driving test?
Your driving test will normally last around 40 minutes and you will be required to show you are a safe driver on a route set by the examiner. You will be asked to complete a manoeuvre, answer some basic show me/tell me questions and you will be expected to follow a route using road signs or satellite navigation. At Davidson Driving School our instructors will ensure you are well prepared for all aspects of the test.
